Leviathan (or, Technocore in Love)

A collaboration with Elliot Rogers, who started and intervened halfway but largely allowed me to rock this piece out alone at home.  (Click here to see the companion piece that I started and Elliot finished.)  The title alludes both to the Biblical whale (or sea serpent) as well as the technological infrastructure within which all of us are now embedded, for better and for worse.

Nod also to Dan Simmons, whose Hyperion Cantos (an award winning tetrad of literature-quality science fiction) introduced me to the idea of the Technocore, a post-Singularity vision of an independent ecology of artificial intelligences whose motives and relationship to humanity is shrouded in mystery (or possibly just our merely-human inability to understand such advanced and alien minds).

Sometimes I feel like we are just microbes in the belly of some great machine, all wondering when the Internet will "wake up" and too small and dumb to recognize that it already has.  This piece alludes to that, and also points to the intensity of modern life – no negative space, here, because the void is full of life.  The silence, full of music.
